GRANTS ASSOCIATE
I believe in a future where our collective effort can dismantle the oppressive structures that continue to harm historically disenfranchised communities and build a more equitable and inclusive future. As a DC resident, the Meyer Foundation’s values toward advancing racial equity and uplifting underrepresented voices in the Greater Washington area align deeply with my own values. I believe in creating a future that would have benefited my parents and my grandparents when they immigrated to America in the 1970s – and I believe that future cannot be created unless we address and dismantle the anti-Blackness that has shrouded the former Chocolate City.
As the Grants Associate, I incorporate the Foundation’s values into the grants management function, develop grantee-centered processes, and build and contribute to a culture of transparency and collaboration. With the Grants Management Team, I support the grantmaking, knowledge management, and data analysis functions of the Foundation as well as assist staff and grantee partners to learn grantmaking processes, troubleshoot challenges, and provide guidance to reduce the burden of funding the movement.
Prior to my role at the Meyer Foundation, I served as the development manager at Ayuda, and in various fundraising and grant writing roles at Alliance for Safety and Justice, Northern Virginia Family Service, and New Virginia Majority. During my eight years in nonprofits, I supported local and national organizations focused on racial justice, community empowerment, and addressing systematic barriers. My role in grant writing, grassroots fundraising, and individual giving funded direct legal and social services, innovative solutions to overhaul mass incarceration, record-breaking voter registration programs, the fight against the school-to-prison pipeline, and efforts to protect local undocumented immigrants. It helped fund 501c3 and 501c4 organizations not just win hearts and minds but also change policies to create lasting impact. Prior to my time in nonprofits, I served as a journalist for five years in my pursuit to uncover truths and shine a light on injustices.
I joined the Meyer Foundation in 2023.
