Grantmaking

Last year, the Foundation gave more than $9.5 million in grants to 262 groups in the DC metro area. Grantmaking is primarily concentrated on 11 priorities including children, homelessness, housing, immigrants, arts, education, and employment.

The Foundation works to identify nonprofit organizations with visionary nonprofit leaders and then makes early and strategic investments of money, time, and connections with other donors. The Foundation is nationally known for its programs that help build the management capacity of its grantees and support outstanding executive directors. It provided support to help create outstanding regional organizations like the Washington AIDS Partnership, the Nonprofit Roundtable, and Washington Grantmakers. The Foundation also serves as a resource to other donors who want to make effective charitable investments in the region.
