Important Education Funding InformationOn July 24, 2009, President Obama and Education Secretary Duncan announced that approximately $9 billion in new grants are being made available to states and school districts as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The goal is long-term school improvements across the nation. Nonprofit groups can apply directly to the Teacher Incentive Fund and Investing in Innovation Fund. Grantees in the NewsSecuring the Safety Net The Coalition for Community Investment has developed a new Web site with a petition calling on Councilmembers to preserve DC funding for critical safety net services. The DC Fiscal Policy Institute has produced an overview of these cuts, along with analyses of how some of them would impact low-income D.C. residents and our community as a whole. Meyer in the News Meyer Foundation Director of Programs Rick Moyers has received the Grantmaker in Capacity Building Award from the Alliance for Nonprofit Management. Examiner Seeks Nonprofits to ProfileThe DC Nonprofit business Examiner is looking for nonprofit organizations in Maryland, Virginia or District of Columbia interested in having their organization profiled here on the DC Nonprofit Business website. Starting the first Friday in August and each Friday thereafter, the DC Nonprofit Business website will profile a local nonprofit organization. Any 501 (c) 3 that serves the DC Metro community in some capacity. The size of the organization does not matter and there is no minimum requirement on the length of time the nonprofit has been in business. Please contact Dianne Walker at DC Nonprofit Business Examiner with basic information about your nonprofit, including the name, location, contact information and a brief synopsis of your organizations' mission. You will be contacted if your organization is selected to profile on the DC Nonprofit Business site.
