The Meyer Foundation's Exponent Award recognizes strong and effective nonprofit leaders with a track record of accomplishment who have the potential for future growth and development. Intended for mid-career executives who may be in danger of burnout or who would benefit from a leadership development grant to take their skills and organization to a new level, the Exponent Award will honor up to five leaders each year. Organizations of award recipients receive a grant of $100,000 over two years to be used for leadership development.
The award program is part of a $2.2-million Meyer Foundation initiative, Rewarding Leadership, designed to stabilize and strengthen the executive leadership of Meyer's grantees, to increase the voice and visibility of some of the region's most effective nonprofit leaders, and to help them attract additional resources.
Criteria:
Nominees should have the following:
- Demonstrated success as managers, including hiring and retaining skilled staff, instituting sound financial management, and increasing the quality and impact of the organization's work.
- Proven effectiveness as a leader, including working in partnership with a committed and engaged board of directors, taking on community leadership roles, and serving as an advocate for the organization and those it serves.
Since the award represents a significant investment in the leader's organization, the Meyer Foundation will, in choosing award recipients, consider the organization's reputation, the effectiveness of its board, its financial stability, and the likelihood that the grant will help create lasting change.
