Rick Moyers became the Meyer Foundation's director of programs in January 2009. From 2003 to 2008, he led Meyer's management assistance, nonprofit sector strengthening, and cash flow loan programs. As director of programs, he continues to oversee those areas while also leading the foundation's grantmaking team.
From 1999 to 2003, Mr. Moyers was executive director of the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations, and from 1992 to 1999 he held senior management positions at BoardSource. Mr. Moyers is a frequent speaker and trainer on nonprofit management and leadership issues, and has written for The Chronicle of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Times. He co-authored A Snapshot of America's Nonprofit Boards, the first national nonprofit governance survey, and Daring to Lead 2006, a national study of nonprofit executive directors. He is also the author of The Nonprofit Chief Executive's Ten Basic Responsibilities, published by BoardSource in 2006.
A long-time Maryland resident, Mr. Moyers holds a bachelor's degree from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park and a master's degree from the University of Baltimore. He has served in a variety of volunteer roles for Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, the Foundation Center, Independent Sector, United Way of Central Ohio, the Urban Institute's Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy, the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington, the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, and the Montgomery County Community Foundation. He is a past board member of Imagination Stage, a family theater and arts education organization in Bethesda, Maryland, and currently serves on the board of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers. He is a member of Leadership Montgomery's Class of 2009.
